The one thing about education that separates it from other professions is the segmentation of the year. Breaking the school year up into the start, winter break, spring break and then summer break creates a predictable pattern for both adults and children. Right now we are at the start of the school year. Along with the start, comes the excitement of beginning again. Many students build upon the successes of the past year while others look to start again. New goals, attitudes and often times a new maturity come with each new start of the school year. We started this school year with an all school assembly and talked about the successes of the past year and set our goals for the upcoming year. Our expectations are high and our students are rising to meet them. Some of the information we shared with the student body were our academic achievements. We are above the state average in all areas tested on the MME (Science, Math, Social Studies, Writing and Reading). We are also above the state and national averages on the ACT. Along with communicating the high academic expectations we have for our students, we also reviewed the high social expectations we have for our students. The district has started a Student Achievement Framework program based on these four principles:
BEE Responsible BEE Respectful BEE Honest BEE Safe We will continue to teach and model these attributes on a daily basis at BHS. As we enter into the third week of a newly started school year, please help us by reinforcing the importance of education with your student. Help us by reminding your student about what it means to be responsible, respectful, honest and safe. The new school year is underway and great things are already going on at BHS. Go BEES! |
